Jaguar: The Cars That Never Fail To Impress

A Jaguar By Any Other Name

Image of Jaguar LogoThe first Jaguar automobile, the SS Jaguar 100, made its first appearance in 1935. It was produced by S.S. Cars Limited, a company formed by Sir William Lyons, also known as “Mr. Jaguar.” In 1945, Sir William Lyons and his shareholders decided to change the company name to Jaguar Cars Limited because the “SS” had a very negative connotation since it was associated with the Nazis.

From Rags To Riches

Jaguar has evolved into one of the most renowned British automobile manufacturers, even though as a brand, it has had its ups and downs, especially during the 60s and 70s. Currently, the luxury vehicle manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has its headquarters in Whitley, Coventry, England. Since 2008, it has been owned by the Indian company Tata Motors which purchased it from Ford. During its 18-year ownership, Ford expanded and upgraded its manufacturing facilities. Unfortunately for Ford though, Jaguar was not very profitable. However, Tata Motors has made great efforts in significantly improving the design and quality of Jaguar vehicles and, in essence, restoring the Jaguar brand to its previous glory.  In fact, according to the Globe and Mail’s, May 2018 article “Why Jaguar is finally thriving (and rolling in cash) under Tata”, sales increased 42% globally in 2013. In Canada, sales were up an astonishing 96%. The sales figures for 2017 also showed an increase of 19%, which translates into selling  425,006 vehicles worldwide. The annual profits for Jaguar are currently in the billions.

Jaguar Remains Distinctively British

Jaguar vehicles have always been a breed apart. They are very distinctive automobiles with a uniquely rich British heritage.  Their impressive development started in the 1930s with the SS models, then in the 1950s with the Le Mans-winning D-Type and continued in the 1960s with the iconic E-Type sports car and the luxurious Mark II sedan. More recently,  Jaguar produced the legendary XJ220 in the 90s, once considered the fastest production sports car in the world. During the new millennium, we have been introduced to the F-Type sports car, the XE and XF sedans/coupes, the stylish F-PACE SUV and the I-Pace (the ultimate all-electric performance SUV). The new models are competing successfully with such luxury brands as Mercedes-Benz and Lexus.

Today’s Jaguar

Tata Motors has made sure that Jaguar vehicles are continuing their legacy of stylish designs, British luxury and high performance. Jaguar has succeeded in offering its customers nothing but the best materials and uncompromising style. As a brand, it has reached a new stratosphere of success since its Ford days. Nowadays, the new Jaguar models all receive excellent reviews and frequently compete for the top spot in their respective classes.

Recommended Service Intervals

In order to maintain the performance you expect from your Jaguar, you must service it regularly. By doing so, you will not only ensure that it runs well but it will also help you maintain your vehicle resale value since interested buyers will want to see your Jaguar’s service history.

Your Jaguar’s service interval depends on several factors: (i) the model, (ii) how you drive and (iii) where you drive. Our technicians can recommend the best service schedule specific to you. It should be noted that driving in towns with traffic can put more strain on your vehicle, therefore it is best to service it more frequently. What’s more, older models can require servicing every 10,000 -15,000 kms, while the newer models normally need to be serviced every 30,000 kms or every 24 months.

However, you also need to keep in mind that there some items, such as brake fluid, that age through time as well as mileage. Consequently, an annual service, regardless of mileage, is important to deal with these and ensure your car is running in top condition.
